How To Build A Minecraft Medieval House
Build Specs
Minecraft’s selection of materials means it is great for building old-style historical settings, so we have come up with this Tudor-style two-storey house build to play to the game’s strengths!
We will show you everything you need to get started – just remember to stay away from any great big fires!
Here are the things your build needs to have to qualify:
- An upper floor slightly larger than the lower one
- A small balcony level on the outside
- A stone chimney stack
- The distinctive white exterior
Other than that, you are free to try whatever you want!
Hints and Tips
Tudor houses have a clean look, with a white exterior and large, dark timber frames. Dark oak logs and birch logs add a weathered, broken-in look to old houses, making them seem more authentic.
You could use the same-coloured concrete blocks, but then it would no doubt look a little too clean for an original build.
When these houses were built, interior space was hard to come by, so they were often small and cramped, and not divided into multiple rooms like modern houses.
For this build, keep the floors open, and divide the interior into sections rather than specific-purpose rooms – a cooking area rather than a kitchen.
Finishing Touches
You can use the stairs to create smoother slanted lines (e.g., for the roof), but stairs placed upside-down are just as invaluable.
Stone stairs look like supports built into the framework of the house, while wood stairs look like supportive brackets. Put some under the roof and ceilings to make it look like the blocks above are sitting on top of them.
The balcony should be made of wood, and imagine it bolted on to the house rather than supported by the bottom floor. We have connected it to an area of landscape that is higher up and supported it with wooden struts.
Be sure to avoid heavier or modern-looking block types, as they will confuse the period accuracy (and the physics!) of the balcony.
The windows in buildings of this age should be very small, as in the past large amounts of glass were hard to get hold of in single pieces. You could also used tinted or stained glass to represent the less pure glass used at the time.
What To Do Next
A fun thing might be to build several houses like this and create a medieval city street. Pave the ground with mossy stone bricks and make sure they are all very close together – almost touching, in fact!
